OFFICE PERSONALITIES INSPIRE TRADING
CARDS FOR GROWN-UPS
Corporate Kingdom explores lighter side of
dysfunctional characters in the workplace
SALT LAKE CITY (October 14, 2003)
Many people dread being around bosses or co-workers
who are Slave Drivers, Slackers or Control Freaks,
but a new company thinks such offbeat office personalities
are good for a laugh.
The Corporate Kingdom, a Utah-based
company, has started selling trading cards, calendars
and mugs dedicated to the irritating people who inhabit
nearly every workplace.
"Sure, some co-workers can be
annoying, but they can also be a great source of comic
relief," says Corporate Kingdom CEO Steve Hawkins.
"You can spend every day letting them drive you
nuts, or you can simply get even in the best possible
way. With Corporate Kingdom cards and mugs, you can
literally hold irritating co-workers in the palm of
your hand and put them in their place."
Corporate Kingdom's initial card release
includes 21 recognizable office personalities, including
Backstabber, Mr. Obsolete, Power Monger, Hypochondriac,
Letch, Fall Guy, Office Bimbo, Delegator, Space Invader,
Erupter, Bean Counter, Gosseptionist, Martyr, Loose
Cannon, Big Mug Betty, Prima Donna and Brown Noser.
Leading the office lineup is the Executive
Pirate, a character inspired by ongoing corporate
financial scandals. "His motto is, 'What has
the company done for me lately?' which pretty much
sums up the greed and sheer brazenness of the crooked
executives who sank the retirement dreams of millions
of Americans," says Hawkins.
"The trading cards are highly satirical but definitely
inspired by real people," says Corporate Kingdom
President Tim Hall. "Our focus groups have shown
that most people find a personal connection to the
characters. Who hasn't known a Brown Noser or a Slacker
in their working life? When people see the cards for
the first time, they often say things like 'Oh, I
know who THAT one is!' "
The trading cards and other merchandise
are intended to give workers a fun pastime and relief
from work-related stress. "The Corporate Kingdom
is a fun diversion for grown-ups who may have enjoyed
cards like Garbage Pail Kids® or publications
like Mad Magazine® when they were younger,"
said Hall. "Our mugs and calendars make a perfect
office gift for deserving co-workers and are especially
fun for those confident individuals who can actually
laugh at themselves."
